Frequently asked questions

How is DSR calculated in Malaysia?
Add up all monthly loan and credit commitments, including the new loan, divide by your net monthly income after EPF, SOCSO and tax, then multiply by 100. RM3,800 of commitments on RM8,000 of net income is a DSR of 47.5%.
What DSR do banks in Malaysia accept?
There is no single official limit: Bank Negara Malaysia lets each bank set its own. Many banks look for roughly 60% to 70%, and lower for lower incomes. Ask your bank for its figure, since this calculator only tests the ceiling you enter.
What counts as a commitment?
Housing, car, personal and study loans, and credit cards. Banks read these from your CCRIS and CTOS reports, so check the reports before you apply.
How can I lower my DSR before applying?
Settle small loans, reduce or close unused credit cards, choose a longer tenure, or add a co-borrower. Each one changes the ratio directly.
Why does DSR matter at a bank auction?
You must pay the balance within 90 to 120 days of the auction, and a failed loan can cost you the deposit. Check your DSR and get a loan indication before you bid.
